Our annual Mother's Education Course offers in-depth, practical training in Mason's methods
and how they apply to lessons and life.
The Mother's Education Course is for mothers new to the method, wanting to grow in the philosophy, and looking to join in community with other CMEC members. All are welcome!
We meet on third Mondays of the month at 8:15 PM Eastern during the school year to discuss a specific aspect of Charlotte Mason's philosophy and its implementation.
The course always offers plenty of living ideas for both those new to Mason's ideas and experienced Mason educators.
The "coursework" for each month includes readings from Mason's volumes and the Parents' Review (the magazine that Mason's organization, the PNEU, published monthly for parents and teachers), questions to consider, and application of the principles through practice. We then encourage you to bring your notes and narrations to each meeting, prepared to share with the group.
The format of our meetings is discussion-based, with the chance to participate on audio/video or in the chat box. Recordings are also available after each meeting for those who cannot attend live but want to be involved.
Our private Canvas classroom for the Mother's Education Course allows for ongoing conversation all year.
This year's theme will be building meaningful relationships in education.
Each month we'll explore a new aspect of Mason's claim that "Education is the Science of Relations":
What does Mason mean by relationship? How does meaningful relationship differ from mastery, acquaintance, or other forms of engagement?
How do Mason's materials and methods uniquely foster a child's relationships with knowledge? Is it realistic to think our children will really form relationships with their schoolwork? What does a lesson oriented toward relationship look like?
Let's consider personal relationships in the classroom: between teacher and student, and among students -- how are these best developed? How do they set the groundwork for intellectual work?
How can we use Mason's principles and methods to help us build meaningful relationships within our families?
This study will energize our homes and homeschools as we dig into why we do what we do as Mason educators and how to do it well.
The Mother's Education Course starting this fall is included in every 2026-27 Membership -- a wonderful opportunity to pursue ideals in community with other parents.
